Top Underwear for Pads: Ultimate Comfort and Leak Protection | Saalt

Image
Navigating your period with comfort and confidence starts with the right foundation—your underwear. At Saalt, we believe period care should be empowering, sustainable, and simple. Founded in 2018 as a certified B Corporation, Saalt has donated over 30,000 menstrual cups and diverted 13 million waste items from landfills, proving that business can be a force for good. When it comes to wearing pads, not all underwear is created equal. A good pair ensures a snug fit, wide gusset, and breathable fabric to prevent leaks and discomfort. Materials like cotton offer softness and airflow, while blends with spandex provide stretch without irritation. For added protection, look for pairs with built-in liners or gussets—perfect for busy days. Period-proof underwear, like Saalt’s leakproof panties , can even replace pads entirely or act as a secure backup on heavier days. With absorbency levels from light to super, they offer leak protection without bulk and support a more eco-friendly lifestyle. ...

Reusable Menstrual Products Now FSA/HSA Eligible: What to Know

Image
Interest in reusable menstrual products—like menstrual cups , menstrual discs , and period underwear (also called leakproof underwear)—has grown significantly in recent years. These eco-friendly options offer long-term savings and reduce waste, but their upfront cost can be a barrier. Thanks to a 2020 law change, there’s now a helpful solution: these products are eligible for purchase with FSA (Flexible Spending Account) and HSA (Health Savings Account) funds. Many people are still unaware of this benefit. You can use your FSA/HSA card directly on many retail websites by searching terms like “FSA eligible menstrual cup” or “HSA period pants.” Retailers often label qualifying items to make them easy to find. Menstrual cups and leakproof underwear can cost $30–$50 each. While they save money over time, using pre-tax FSA/HSA funds can reduce the upfront burden and help avoid sales tax—sometimes called the "tampon tax." This is different from the “pink tax,” which refers to inf...

How Starting from Scratch Led to the Smartest Underwear in Period Care

Image
By: Cherie Hoeger It all started with discomfort. Like many, I used pads and tampons, never realizing there were better options—until I discovered menstrual cups while searching for sustainable solutions for my family in Venezuela. One try, and I was hooked. Comfortable, odor-free, reusable for up to 10 years—it was a game-changer. But I still couldn’t find a cup I truly loved. So, after 14 design iterations, we created the Saalt Cup—simple, beginner-friendly, and now a best-seller on Amazon and in Target. Next came Saalt Wear. Disappointed with bulky, wet-feeling period underwear on the market, we set out to make something better. Starting from scratch (and a little “stupid”), we teamed up with experts—including an FBI blood-on-fabric specialist—to engineer a patented gusset that absorbs fast, stays dry, and feels like real underwear. We called our breakthrough “layer zero”—a top layer that wicks moisture away and feels dry to the touch. From patented tech to Parisian design, every ...

Tips for Cleaning Your Cup or Disc While Traveling This Holiday Season

Image
Using a menstrual cup or disc while traveling can be intimidating, but we’re here to help! Whether you’re on a plane, in an airport bathroom, or at a relative’s house, we have tips to make it stress-free. No Sink, No Problem: If you find yourself in a stall without a sink, our Travel Kit is a lifesaver. It includes a squeeze bottle you can fill with water to rinse your menstrual disc or cup. After emptying your cup into the toilet, use the squeeze bottle to spray and clean it. Then, store it in the compact sanitizer. Don’t forget to use the wet bag for your accessories to keep them contained until you can properly clean and dry them. Water-Free Cleaning: In a pinch, some wipes can be used for a quick clean. After emptying your cup, wipe it down with a couple of wipes, which are safe for both silicone and skin, like our brand of wipes. They’re also biodegradable and flushable, making them ideal for tight spaces like airplane bathrooms. Subtle Sanitizing: If your period ends while trav...
